The Lawton Public Schools board introduced Dr. Janice Carter as the district's new assistant superintendent for educational and student services and welcomed her to the community.
"I'm truly excited and honored to be here," Dr. Carter said in brief remarks after being introduced by district leadership. She told the board and attendees she had spent the prior week visiting schools, had seen the commitment of educators firsthand and was beginning her work in the district ("This is day 5").
Dr. Weaver, superintendent, presented Dr. Carter's selection and described her nearly 25 years of experience in K‑12 education, including work in California and Texas and experience in instruction and special education services. Dr. Weaver said the board and district look forward to Dr. Carter partnering with families, students and staff to improve outcomes.
The board offered brief applause and welcome remarks; no formal vote was recorded in the transcript for the appointment beyond the public introduction. Implementation and onboarding actions were discussed as part of administrative updates.
