Silver Creek supervisors approve Starry Gravel Pit lease, vote to sell old pickup and donate $200 to trapper

The Silver Creek Township Board of Supervisors on Nov. 26, 2024 approved the Starry Gravel Pit lease, authorized the sale of an aging township pickup and voted to donate $200 to a trapper who removed three beavers from 150th Street.
Vice Chairman Brandon Geyen moved to approve the Starry Gravel Pit lease; Supervisor Sandy Forsman seconded and the motion carried 5-0. Chairman Mike Helman moved to sell the old pickup on Elsenpeter Auction; Vice Chairman Geyen seconded and that motion also carried 5-0.
The board also moved to donate $200 to Jason, the contracted trapper, for removing three beavers from 150th Street. Chairman Helman made the motion, Vice Chairman Geyen seconded, and Supervisor Andy Christensen recorded an abstention; the motion was carried (recorded as carried in the minutes).
The board approved the Nov. 7, 2024 meeting minutes and a list of disbursements on motions by Vice Chairman Geyen, seconded by Supervisor Forsman; both carried 5-0. The audit of claims presented in the minutes listed several payees and amounts, including Pera ($1,123.04), Wright County ($150.00), West Central ($5,845.21), Chatham Township ($30.00) and CorTrust ($28.62).
Clerk-Treasurer Alana Paumen told the board she is working with the town CPA to gather information needed to finish the audit, is making a few parcel corrections and will submit fire assessments this week. Maintenance reported a contractor has a possible start date of Dec. 3–4 for the 134th culvert replacement project; the board said it will request a county extension for submitting invoices in order to meet grant funding requirements.
Chatham Township requested permission to store its water truck in Silver Creek's storage shed; the board said it will have Chatham Township's attorney draft an agreement. The board noted snowplow equipment will be installed and training on routes and machines will start next week; trucks are scheduled for DOT and annual service.
During open forum, Brian Jones, a resident, told the board his proposed 2025 property taxes on his "garden lot" had risen nearly 1,000 percent and also reported a dog running loose around Ellingwood Avenue. The minutes do not record a board response to those comments.
The board received and deposited a $353.42 check related to a hospital board dissolution and noted the early registration deadline (Nov. 27, 2024) for the MAT Conference. The meeting was adjourned on a motion by Vice Chairman Geyen, seconded by Supervisor Andy Christensen.
Next procedural steps recorded in the minutes include pursuing a county invoice-extension for grant compliance on the culvert project and drafting an agreement for Chatham Township's use of the storage shed.
