Silver Creek Township delays decision on accepting Xcel sirens, requests coordination with neighboring townships

At its Sept. 3 meeting, the Silver Creek Township Board of Supervisors discussed whether to accept Xcel sirens and the attendant long-term responsibility for activation and maintenance.
Supervisors and members of the audience raised concerns about potential costs, tax impacts, liability, and whether county activation and private maintenance vendors will remain available in the future. After discussion, Supervisor Ryan Nelson moved for a two-week extension to allow the board to gather additional information and consult neighboring townships; Vice Chairman Brandon Geyen seconded. The motion carried with a 3-1 tally recorded in the minutes; the minutes do not assign individual names to the yes or no votes.
The board said it will be in contact with surrounding townships to learn how those jurisdictions concluded similar requests and will reconvene to make a final decision after the extension period.
