"We were at the national Keep America Beautiful conference," Campbell said, adding that the conference offered a hub of materials and a marketing plan that will be published in March. Members discussed using that content for Beaufort County—arth Day events and for a county-wide registration portal or QR code to track participation.
Victoria, the county staff liaison, explained that the county currently holds hub credentials under a staff account and that Chloe McGuigan (recycling coordinator) oversees the KAB affiliation; Victoria said she will try to share access or transfer privileges when Chloe returns from maternity leave. Members requested that the county share the KAB checklist and hub access with the board so volunteers can use national flyers, videos and strategy documents.
The board confirmed an Earth Day presence and discussed co-branding opportunities with Palmetto Pride and local partners; the Beaufort County Earth Day event date was confirmed for April 25 and a farmers market appearance was planned for April 19 in Port Royal. Members proposed printing QR-code-enabled flyers and business cards to drive sign-ups for the Great American Cleanup pledge.
Several members raised programmatic concerns: a recycling and enforcement advocate urged that pickup events alone do not reduce litter unless paired with cause-focused measures and enforcement, and the board discussed how to channel conference messaging into actionable local proposals for the legislative and finance subcommittees.
The communications and outreach work—hub access, QR code creation, printed materials and co-branded booths—was assigned to staff and volunteers to plan in time for the April events.
