Board pulls facility and negotiations committee appointments for separate vote after debate

The Shawnee Heights Board of Education approved its annual organizational document but decided to pull the facility and negotiations committee appointments for separate consideration at a future meeting after questions and discussion from board members.
During review of the 2026–27 organizational items, one trustee moved to approve the document while removing items 30 and 31 (the negotiations and facility committees) so they could be discussed and voted on separately. Board members debated whether the facility committee had previously been formally appointed and whether committee membership should be confirmed now or left to come back on the next agenda.
One board member said, “We have not ever voted on the facility committee,” noting a mix of volunteer and appointment practices over prior years and concern about open-meetings requirements if a committee is board-appointed. Other trustees said some background work had already been completed by volunteers and that the board could revisit appointments in early August so the facility committee could meet in time to consider upcoming GMPs.
The board approved the main organizational document with the two committee items pulled for later action and agreed to bring committee appointments back on the next agenda so trustees could nominate or volunteer for those seats.
