Silver Creek supervisors accept donated sirens, approve IT spending and raise maintenance pay

The Silver Creek Township Board of Supervisors on Sept. 17 accepted two tornado sirens donated by Xcel Energy, authorized up to $12,000 for new computer equipment from Northstar Technologies and approved operational and personnel measures including a $1-per-hour raise for a maintenance employee.
Chairman Mike Helman presided over the meeting. Supervisor Ryan Nelson moved to accept the two sirens donated by Xcel Energy; Helman seconded and the board approved the donation unanimously. Nelson also moved several administrative motions during the meeting, many of which passed without dissent.
Clerk-Treasurer Alana Paumen reported the township's fund balances: General $127,542.29; Contingency $9,646.46; Road & Bridge $403,014.54; Fire $55,099.86; ARPA $13,772.51; Checking $24,708.69. Paumen also said the township attorney is increasing hourly rates to $275/$300 and that she is working with the county to finalize parcel counts used to calculate fire fees. She noted quarterly recycling reports will be added to future reports and presented an invitation to the Wright County Township Officers Association quarterly meeting.
On procurement, Chairman Mike Helman moved to accept a quote from Northstar Technologies and to authorize spending up to $12,000 on computer equipment. Supervisor Ryan Nelson seconded; Supervisor Andy Christensen abstained from the vote, citing a conflict of interest. The motion carried with two affirmative votes and one abstention.
On personnel, Supervisor Andy Christensen moved to increase the maintenance employee's hourly wage by $1 to $33; Nelson seconded and the motion carried 3-0. The board also approved up to $300 to send two maintenance employees to chainsaw training on Nov. 13 hosted by Maple Lake Township.
The board voted to begin conversations with gravel pit owners about extending or continuing the township's gravel contract, and approved the list of claims as read at the meeting. The audit of claims recorded in the minutes included four entries transcribed at the meeting: 18989 $60.00; 189993 $212.52; 18997 $61.06; 19496 $278.14. Clerk-Treasurer Paumen said audit information must be submitted to the CPA by Sept. 30.
The board also reported that the Monticello fire contract has been fully executed between the City of Monticello and the township. No final decision on hall flooring was made; Supervisor Ryan Nelson presented two quotes and said an additional vendor would be contacted.

Next steps noted at the meeting: audit materials due to the CPA by Sept. 30; supervisors will contact an additional flooring vendor for the hall and will begin outreach to gravel pit owners to discuss the contract.
