Chester Council on Aging pauses spaghetti suppers, schedules baked-potato luncheon and park picnic

The Chester Council on Aging met April 8 at the Town Hall and agreed to pause its recurring spaghetti suppers and instead schedule a baked-potato luncheon, board members said. Darlene Stone proposed placing the spaghetti suppers on hold because there are “too many of them,” and the change was agreed by the board; lists will be prepared for supplies and scheduling.
The board also approved selling crafts — and possibly baked goods — at the Chester on Track event, including offering several bins of yarn that were donated to the COA, Keirsen Broman said. The COA will coordinate who will bring items and when.
Dave Orcutt urged the group to organize a picnic at Stanley Park for seniors, with Highland Valley delivering lunches to the park. The board noted the FRTA van could be requested to transport seniors who cannot get to the park; the van holds about 12–14 passengers. The picnic date was not set and the board said the event will be scheduled subject to weather.
Why this matters: these changes affect the center’s regular meal and social programs for local seniors and alter how the COA allocates volunteer and staff time. The board said it will make lists and follow up with dates.
The board plans to revisit the Tai Chi proposal and finalize event dates at a later meeting.
