The director said staff observed erosion and cracking near the front entry and that John Parent, the town director of facilities, would consult with a concrete vendor and facilities staff about repairs. The director said the aim is to make repairs before the October book sale to avoid disrupting public events.
Trustees also discussed replacing aging light fixtures installed during an addition in the 1980s with more energy-efficient LED fixtures; the director said the work would likely be scheduled when the building is closed to minimize public impact.
On IT infrastructure, the director reported meeting with the town IT director and government consultants who identified wiring and infrastructure deficiencies. He estimated a project to reorganize wiring and upgrade building IT systems could be in the ballpark of $30,000. Trustees discussed two approaches: include the work as a capital request or identify another funding bucket to avoid the capital-project pipeline and possible multi-year delays.
Separately, the director said DPW is reviewing landscaping contracts and will engage an engineer to outline parking-lot needs as a first step toward hiring an outside consultant for a capital proposal. Trustees welcomed DPW involvement and asked to be kept informed as plans progress.
No votes were taken on the facilities or IT items; trustees asked the director to return with specific cost estimates and proposals when available.
