Speed study finds compliance on Mill Street south; board approves permanent speed sign at north entrance

Police Chief Small presented results of a Mill Street speed study. At the south Mill Street location, more than 2,600 of 3,026 vehicles traveling northbound were at or below 25 mph, indicating generally good compliance. Southbound traffic at that location showed higher speeds, with a concentration in the 26–35 mph range. At the north location (leaving town), northbound traffic exhibited higher speeds — with 644 vehicles recorded in the 26–30 mph range and 332 in the 31–35 mph range — while southbound traffic entering town showed better compliance.
Chief Small recommended installing a permanent speed sign on the north end, incoming from Fair Grounds Road, to replace the current portable trailer sign. The board approved the installation by unanimous vote.
The board did not set an installation date in the meeting minutes but directed staff to proceed with placement just past the old school on Mill Street.
