North Lakes Community Council urges southern route for Angstrom–Trunk connector before Aug. 3 hearing

Rod Hansen, speaking for the North Lakes Community Council, told the Matanuska-Susitna Borough Planning Commission on July 20 that his group supports the Angstrom–Trunk connector project but favors the southern route as the preferred alignment.
Hansen said the council has been active on the project for about two years and has drafted a resolution articulating the council’s reasons for preferring the southern route. "We definitely support the kind of a long overdue connection between Angstrom and Trunk Road... However, we support the Southern route as being the preferred route," Hansen said. He told commissioners the draft resolution would be circulated among board members and submitted for inclusion in the commission’s packets by Monday, July 27, ahead of the Aug. 3 public hearing, and that representatives from the council will testify at the hearing.
The commission had introduced Resolution 26-13 for public hearing on Aug. 3; that packet language lists a staff recommendation for North Route 1 in the October 2025 draft route-selection report. Hansen asked commissioners to review the council’s rationale before the hearing so the council’s testimony may inform the public record.
