The Matanuska-Susitna Borough Planning Commission on July 20 postponed a quasi-judicial hearing on a conditional-use permit for an alcohol dispensary at 10204 South Knik Goose Bay Road until Aug. 3 after two commissioners said they had conflicts of interest.
Planning Director Alex Straub told the commission the matter—identified in the packet as Resolution 26-10—requires four votes under Title 15 of the borough code. "It does require 4 votes in order to take any sort of action in accordance with title 15 of borough code," Straub said, noting that Commissioners McCabe and Carpenter would need to recuse themselves, which would leave the panel short of the votes needed to act.
The chair consequently removed the item from the evening's agenda and scheduled it for the commission's Aug. 3 meeting. No public testimony was taken on this item at the July 20 meeting. The action is a postponement of the hearing; any final decision on the conditional-use permit will occur only after the full public process at a later meeting.
