Payson Unified board renews food-service contract and approves personnel, lease and CTE agreements

The Governing Board of Payson Unified School District unanimously approved several routine and programmatic actions at its March 30, 2026, regular meeting, including a renewed food-service contract, personnel contracts and an intergovernmental agreement for career and technical education.
Board members voted to renew PUSD RFP 20-01-09 with Southwest Food Service Excellence (SFE) as the district's food-service management company for the 2026-27 school year after SFE representatives provided samples and described meal services. SFE attendees included Manager Terry Lynch, Director Simeon Murphy and Food Services Coordinator MaryJo Turvey. The motion to approve the contract renewal was made by Michell Marinelli and seconded by Audrey Hogue and passed with all five board members voting Yea.
The board also approved issuance of administrator, related services, certified and hourly contracts and notices of employment for the 2026-27 school year, including the salary and hourly wage amounts presented to the board. Joanne Conlin moved the motion to approve those contracts and Michell Marinelli seconded; the vote was unanimous.
In other business, the board approved an intergovernmental agreement between CTED and Satellite to provide career and technical education (CTE) courses and authorized a shared-use lease with Lexington as presented. Both motions passed unanimously. The board additionally approved the monthly financial statements as presented.
Meeting materials noted that standard cafeteria facility rentals do not include kitchen access; Linda Gibson explained that groups requesting kitchen use must have an SFE employee present and will incur additional charges to cover staffing costs. The meeting included a brief Superintendent's Report and a Principal's "Good Things" update highlighting a new after-school garden club at Payson Elementary School started by Teacher Mary Nelson with volunteer support from the High Country Garden Club.
The board adopted the published agenda at the start of the meeting and later adjourned at 5:45 p.m. following a motion by Audrey Hogue and second by Michell Marinelli. No dissenting votes were recorded on any item reported in the minutes.
