Killdeer commission names vice president, adopts commissioner portfolios and fills city posts

The Killdeer City Commission on July 13 appointed Commissioner Greg Nordsven as vice president, approved a package of commissioner duties and portfolios, and unanimously voted to fill multiple city posts and board vacancies.
Commission President Logan Wallace called the special meeting to order at 5:00 P.M. Commissioner Jeff Fair moved to appoint Commissioner Greg Nordsven as vice president; Commissioner Chris Fenstermaker seconded the motion and, on a roll call vote, all voted aye.
The commission then approved the set of commissioner duties and portfolio assignments. Under the approved assignments, Commission President Logan Wallace will serve as the Water/Sewer Commissioner, a JDA Board member, Food Pantry Committee representative and Tree Board Committee member; Commissioner Greg Nordsven will be Street Commissioner and Finance Commissioner; Commissioner Cindy Hanson will hold the Aquatics & Wellness Center portfolio and represent the city on the Public Library and Golf boards while serving on the Daycare Committee and Community Development Advisory Board; and Commissioner Chris Fenstermaker will be Police Commissioner and the city’s Oil & Gas representative and will serve on the Visitor’s Committee Board, Dunn County Fair Association, the Daycare Committee and the Community Development Advisory Board. Commissioner Chris Fenstermaker moved to approve the duties and portfolios and Commissioner Jeff Fair seconded; the motion passed on a roll call vote with all commissioners recorded as voting aye.
The commission then approved a series of administrative appointments. Commissioner Fenstermaker moved, and the commission approved by unanimous roll call vote, the appointment of Dane Larsen as City Assessor. The commission appointed Nate Bouray of Cooperative Legal Services as City Attorney; Kenzie Robertson (Highlands Engineering) and Eric Lothspeich (AE2S) as City Engineers; and Scott Harmstead (SRF Consulting) as City Planner. Commissioner Fenstermaker also moved to appoint Roger Gartner, Jeff Bren, LaVae Williams, Ceaton Hoots, Patrick Hedger, JoAnn Lindemann and Jeff Simmons to the Planning & Zoning Board; that motion passed on a roll call vote with all ayes.
Why it matters: these votes set the city’s administrative and advisory roster for planning, engineering, legal and development functions, and assign clear portfolio responsibilities among commissioners that will guide oversight and staff direction going forward.
