Oswego Dining & Activity Center opens May 12; OFA warns farmer's market coupon allocation will be smaller this year

The Oswego Dining and Activity Center (DAC) will open May 12 and operate Tuesdays and Wednesdays, offering socialization and meals to older residents, the County of Oswego Office for the Aging reported at its May 8 advisory council meeting.
Sara Sunday, Aging Services Administrator, said an open house on May 6 was well attended. The DAC will be served by the Centro bus line but does not have dedicated transportation; participants are encouraged to call ahead to reserve a meal, though drop‑ins may attend without a guaranteed meal.
OFA also highlighted this year's Senior Farmer's Market Coupon Program. The agency said it received a record 1,500 coupon booklets last year and additional booklets funded by remaining ARPA dollars; for 2026 OFA expects a substantially smaller allocation. To maximize access, OFA plans a drive‑through distribution at the Fulton Community College campus on opening day and will staff tables at the Fulton, Oswego and Pulaski farmers markets in the first week the coupons are available; supplies will be distributed on a first‑come, first‑served basis.
At the opening, Beth McCarthy will hand out basil container gardens and fresh food boxes from Food Bank of Central New York; the minutes note the container gardens (sourced from Oliver Paine) and spray bottles are being provided this year but that this is the last year for container gardens because the SNAP Education Program has been eliminated.
Other community events and supports announced at the meeting included a Caregiver 101 session on May 15, a four‑county caregiver event at Jefferson Community College on May 28, a Longest Day gathering to support people affected by Alzheimer’s on June 18 at the Oswego Farmers Market (Sara Sunday encouraged attendees to wear purple), Family Game Night on May 20, and Senior Day at the County Fair on July 1. The annual Senior Picnic is set for Aug. 19 at the Fulton Polish Home; meals will be provided at no cost to seniors.
