Ely council extends Nevada Northern Railway development agreement through Jan. 1, 2027

Ely, Nev. — The Ely City Council voted unanimously June 11 to approve the ninth amendment to a Development Agreement with the Nevada Northern Railway Foundation, extending the agreement’s term to Jan. 1, 2027.
Councilman Dennis Perea said the amendment reflects an understanding that the City would not be involved in the Foundation’s for-profit activities. "Either there was City Council representation on that board because there was City business, or the City was out of it," Perea said. The amendment, he said, leaves the commercial side separate and names the City as a second insured on specific provisions.
Mayor Pro Tempore Terrill Trask said he was "happy to see we were out" of the for-profit governance arrangement as clarified in the amendment. The motion to approve the ninth amendment was moved by Perea and seconded by Councilwoman Jerri Lynn Williams-Harper and carried unanimously.
The amendment extends the existing Development Agreement for a finite period while the council and Foundation continue to coordinate on historic-railroad operations and related projects.
