Nome Common Council approves FY2025 capital projects amendment and delays potential sales-tax increase

The Nome Common Council on July 28 unanimously approved two ordinances after brief public hearings with no public testimony.

The council adopted Ordinance 25-07-01, described by the city clerk as “an ordinance amending the City of Nome fiscal year 2025 capital projects fund budget.” The item was opened for public hearing at 7:06 p.m.; with no members of the public speaking, the council returned to session, a motion to adopt was made and seconded, and the ordinance passed by roll call with all present voting yes.

The council also approved Ordinance 25-07-02, read by the clerk as “an ordinance of the council of the City of Nome, Alaska delaying the imposition of sales tax rate increase if ratified by voters.” The council opened a public hearing at 7:07 p.m., heard no testimony, moved to adopt on second reading, and approved the ordinance by unanimous roll call.

“The hearing is closed and we will proceed with the vote,” the chair said as each item concluded.
