Maysville Housing Authority named HUD "high performer," director cites partnership for East End development

The Maysville Housing Authority has been named a "high performer" by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Executive Director Peter Jones said on the mayor’s program.

"The housing authority has been named a 'high performer,' and this is set by the Department of Housing and Urban Development," Jones said, adding that the authority earned the rating for both its public housing and Section 8 programs.

That designation is based on several components, Jones said: "We are...scored in physical condition, financial condition, management condition, and then our capital fund program, how it's run." He credited staff and partners for maintaining occupancy and operations that helped secure the rating.

Jones said the authority is shifting its internal culture "to be a service unit" focused on helping people in the city. He also described a new partnership with Frontier Housing, saying, "we partnered with Frontier Housing...hopefully, we're gonna have some development here. It's a long process, and it takes a lot of time." He indicated the effort is aimed at supporting the East End of Maysville but did not give a timeline or financial details.

The mayor congratulated Jones and his staff for the achievement and confirmed with Jones that this was the highest performance level the authority has achieved across both programs at the same time. Jones responded that it was "definitely" the first time both programs scored at that level concurrently.

No formal actions, funding approvals, or development permits were announced during the segment. Jones and the mayor closed by thanking one another and the program’s viewers.
