Archdale approves Freeman Place crosswalk for preschool drop‑off

Planning Administrator Matthew Wells told the Council staff had received a petition signed by the preschool and two churches requesting a crosswalk between North Main Street and Petty Street to address cut‑through traffic and safety concerns during school hours. Wells said Freeman Place is designated 25 mph but that staff observations and a Police Department recommendation showed the crosswalk could be installed safely. No members of the public spoke in opposition. Mayor Pro Tem Kelly Grooms moved to approve the crosswalk; Councilman John Glass seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The crosswalk is intended to be used primarily during the school year for drop‑off and pickup. City staff will coordinate placement and any accompanying signage or markings with the Police Department and public works.
