The Hill City Council on March 10 approved the bid schedule and plans for a wildlife and security fence at the Hill City–Quadna Mountain Airport and handled a package of routine municipal business.
The council approved the engineer’s plans and specifications and authorized advertising for bids on the Airport Wildlife & Security Fencing Project. The engineer’s estimate for the project is $254,520, with MnDOT Aeronautics covering an estimated 90% ($229,068) and a local share estimated at 10% ($25,452). The council approved the bid schedule to advertise on March 10, open bids on April 2, and review and accept bids at the April 14 council meeting. Council Member Kenny Hilton moved to approve the bid schedule and Council Member Tom Semler seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
In other business, the council adopted Resolution 2026-3 to apply for a Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Outdoor Recreation Grant, approved updated Investment and Fund Balance policies, and granted an LG220 permit for the Woodland Chapter MN Deer Hunters Association to hold bingo May 2 at the fire hall. The council also approved Northland Portables and A & W bleacher rental for Fourth of July events and reviewed the Hill City Fire Department Gambling Scorecard presented by Public Safety Director Saxton.
The council accepted the resignation of J. Zempel and moved to fill the vacancy soon. The meeting closed with approval of February council pay and announcements about city cleanup days May 14–17 and upcoming community events including an Easter Egg Hunt and the Annual Fire Relief fish fry.
Next steps: staff will proceed with bid advertising for the airport fence project, complete grant application filings tied to approved resolutions, and schedule follow-up on any vendor agreements and personnel replacement actions.
