District staff say signed lease with Pueblo of Pojoaque needed to advance middle-school plans to PSFA

Superintendent Dr. Segura said the Pueblo’s general counsel called the lease a strong agreement and that the Pueblo council will consider it Oct. 2. She said the district’s requested edits—retaining language about exchanging land and water rights of equal market value, and clarifying lease terms—were accepted, and that a signed agreement would enable submission to PSFA. "If board approves and signs the land lease ... we will submit it to PSFA so we can proceed and present to the Public School Capital Outlay Council for additional square footage to begin the project," she said.
Board members discussed specifics including the exchange of land and water rights, the proposed annual lease amount ($3,000 cited in the red-line language), and community concerns about site ownership and interim use. The board voted to accept the red-line edits and to proceed with the lease language as presented, with administration to follow up on Pueblo council action and next steps required by PSFA.
