Orrville utilities director announces retirement after nearly 40 years; council and mayor thank him for service

Utilities Director Brediger announced at the July 6 Orrville City Council meeting that he will retire at the end of the month after more than 39 years with the city’s utilities organization (and five years in the private sector after college). Reading a prepared statement to the council, Brediger reflected on career highlights and thanked colleagues and elected officials.
Brediger listed specific operational accomplishments, including restoring a third-generation unit to service in 1988, the construction of a new substation in 2000 after a 1995 fire, joint projects through American Municipal Power (AMP) including hydro and solar assets, and efforts that the city credited with keeping most utilities debt free. He said the generation plant yielded significant customer savings, noting that "last year alone, the plant saved our customers over $12M." He also described work that helped Orrville prevail in litigation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and later kept the plant operating in a limited mode.
In his statement Brediger said, "I'll be retiring at the end of this month," expressed gratitude to coworkers, and told the council the utilities are "in very capable hands with Mr. Filippi and utility leadership." Mayor Plybon thanked Brediger for his leadership, dedication and service during the meeting.
Council did not take formal action on personnel at the July 6 meeting beyond accepting the statement into the record; Brediger said he will remain in the community after retirement and noted personal plans including a longstanding marriage anniversary. The council expressed appreciation and wished him well.
