Council adopts revised public-works call-out fees, waives charges for emergency shut-offs

City Administrator Brian Bullock and Public Works Director Dennis Wortman presented an update to the Public Works call-out fee schedule to simplify charges for water shut-offs and emergency responses.
Under the revised schedule, there is no fee for water shut-offs or turn-ons during normal business hours and no fee for emergency shut-offs. For non-emergency call-outs outside business hours the city will charge a $150 fee plus the current hourly rate of the Public Works Director with a two-hour minimum charged at time-and-a-half; any materials or equipment rental will be billed in addition to wages.
Wortman estimated he receives roughly six emergency call-outs per year. Councilmember Drew Dawson moved to adopt the revised fee schedule; Michael Taylor seconded the motion and it passed with four aye votes.
The new fee schedule is intended to clarify billing for residents and ensure the city recovers overtime and material costs when staff respond outside normal hours for non-emergencies.
