Boulder pool may need new piping and pump; city fund holds reserves after accounting error

Logan Leary, the pool manager, told the City Council on May 11 that the city pool continues to leak and may require replacement of piping and concrete work, which Clerk/Treasurer Rosemary Perna estimated could cost roughly $20,000. Leary also said the pool pump may need replacement at a cost between $3,500 and $5,000.
Perna said the pool fund currently had about $60,000 in reserves and that the apparent excess resulted from an accounting error she acknowledged. Council member Michael Taylor asked whether the pool should have a Capital Improvement Fund; Perna replied the pool is a separate fund and not an enterprise fund, so a CIF is not necessary and the fund can retain tax money from year to year.
The council recorded the repairs and reserve status for further budget planning; Perna and staff will present payroll estimates and updated figures at the next workshop.
