Volunteer fire department asks council to match CIF, buy radios and turnouts

Amanda Cochran, captain of the Boulder Volunteer Fire Department, presented the department’s capital and equipment requests at the May 11 budget workshop. Cochran said new radios cost about $3,500 each and hoses for both the wildland truck and structure engine would cost between $3,000 and $6,000.
Cochran asked that the council match the Capital Improvement Fund contribution for the wildland engine at $25,000, a match to the FY2025/26 contribution. She also requested two sets of turnout gear for new members, estimated at about $6,000, plus smaller equipment, wildland clothing and high-visibility membership jackets totaling around $3,000.
Clerk/Treasurer Rosemary Perna told the council a grant received in FY2025/26 should pay for 1.5 radios. The requests were recorded for budget consideration; the council did not record a formal vote at the workshop and directed staff to include the items in upcoming budget materials.
