Bristol committee sets volunteer push, dates for hazardous-waste drop-off and schedules outreach speakers

The Bristol Sustainability Committee used its July 14 meeting to coordinate several community programs and recruit volunteers.
Members confirmed a Household Hazardous Waste Collection at the Bristol Transfer Station on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Chuck at the transfer station is coordinating the event and requested volunteers; Jan Metcalf and Herb D’Arcy indicated they can attend and others said they would consider volunteering.
The group agreed to ask Sue Richman, who coordinates plastics efforts in New Hampshire, to speak as part of a late-fall or winter event at the library; Jan Metcalf will follow up on scheduling. The committee also encouraged attendance at two Newfound Lake Regional Association programs at Grey Rocks: Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. on how climate change is reshaping New Hampshire forests, and Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. on microplastics pollution in New England.
Donna reported progress on a proposed repair café and plans to visit an existing repair café in September to learn how one is run. In new business, Brenda described Echo Smith, a company that supplies collection boxes for used textiles; she has spoken with Chuck, who said he is interested but the transfer station’s available space is still under consideration. Brenda will report back when more details are known.
Committee members also proposed several winter activities, including a book club on climate topics and a short video presentation about beavers restoring wildland; Herb said he would seek a speaker from the regional planning commission to discuss household hazardous waste collection protocols.
The meeting record indicates these items were discussed and assignments were made for follow-up; no formal votes on program adoption or funding were recorded.
