Brockton trustees approve dozens of hires; multiple abstentions recorded on relative hires

The Brockton School Board approved a large slate of personnel appointments for the 2025–26 school year during its April 8 meeting, confirming coaching staffs, paraprofessionals, custodians, secretarial positions and transportation hires.
Trustee Olivia Johnson led many motions from the consent slate; Trustee Terry Rattling Thunder and Trustee Rae Jean Belgarde frequently seconded. Board Chair Sammy Nygard repeatedly moved or seconded several appointments involving relatives and typically voted in favor while other trustees abstained. A substitute student worker (Margaux Runs Through) was approved; a substitute teacher/paraprofessional (Tana Two Bulls) was recommended pending satisfactory background checks.
Most motions were noncontroversial and passed on voice votes recorded in the minutes. Where abstentions occurred, the minutes explicitly cite the abstention as related to a relative of the trustee being hired; the transcript does not record any further discussion or challenge about those recusals.
