Pella Public Library trustees approve routine business, director evaluation and a $250 annual membership

The Pella Public Library Board of Trustees handled routine business and personnel matters at its June 9 meeting, approving a series of unanimous motions and reviewing the library's year-to-date finances.
President Chris Allen called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. and the board first approved the consent agenda, including the June 9 agenda and May 12 minutes; Carol Van Klompenburg moved the motion and Joy Messer seconded. The board also approved the April 2026 bills after Library Director Tina Hertel confirmed the bills had been distributed and that there were no additional invoices.
Hertel told trustees, “We have 13.42% left in the budget with one month remaining,” summarizing the year-to-date financial position.
On personnel matters, the personnel committee presented an evaluation of Director Tina Hertel. Trustee Amy Meyer said the committee highlighted Hertel’s leadership and that staff feel supported and engaged; the board voted to approve the evaluation unanimously.
For governance, trustees approved the FY2026–27 officer slate submitted by the personnel committee, which lists Amy Meyer as President and Chris Allen as Vice President. The board also approved joining the Association of Rural & Small Libraries; Hertel said the cost is $250 per year and the motion to join, moved by Joy Messer and seconded by Carol Van Klompenburg, passed unanimously.
Trustees reviewed a revised Request for Materials policy; the policy will be brought back for approval at the next meeting after trustee suggestions are incorporated. Guest staff member Cathy Homes was introduced as a library assistant who has worked at the library about a year.
The meeting adjourned at 5:19 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for July 14, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. in the library meeting room.
