County staff presented a petition from Kevin and Alex Blood requesting vacation of the north 0.75-mile portion of Brown Avenue (leaving the southern 0.25-mile adjacent to the Dobbins property open). The presenter showed a map of the petitioned area, explained the legal description used for the petition and said adjacent landowners Riemenschneider and the Dobbins had not objected during preliminary outreach.
Staff explained the practical effect: vacating the roadway in the petitioned segments would remove current setback constraints that affect the Bloods’ planned development and allow design changes. The petition covers two noncontiguous survey descriptions in State Center Township and was filed with two signatures from the petitioners.
A supervisor moved to accept service of the petition; the board voted unanimously to receive the petition and directed staff to start the statutory publishing and hearing steps required for a road vacation.
Board members asked staff about next steps and timing related to publishing requirements and scheduling the public hearing, and staff said they would verify publication dates and return with hearing scheduling and notification details.
