The council voted to adopt the business agenda after a motion by Councilwoman Bryant and a second from Councilman Bales; the presiding clerk called for a voice vote and the agenda was approved. The council next approved the Dec. 3, 2024 meeting minutes on a motion from Councilman Steinbeck with a second from Councilman Jackson.
City finance staff reported the police department had received $7,824.65 in unauthorized substance-abuse tax funds and asked the council to adopt Budget Ordinance 2025.01 to appropriate those funds. "The police department received some... $7,824.65," the finance staff said when presenting the ordinance. Councilman Jackson moved the ordinance; the council approved it by voice vote.
Staff also requested adoption of Budget Ordinance 2025.02 after Parks & Recreation reported a $20,000 award from the North Carolina Amateur Youth Sports Grant to buy youth equipment and make facility upgrades. Councilman Strickland moved the ordinance and Councilman Steynback seconded; the motion passed on voice vote.
No roll-call tallies for individual council votes were recorded in the meeting transcript; the clerk announced each motion carried following unanimous voice responses. The meeting adjourned at the conclusion of regular business after a motion by Councilman Bridal and second by Councilman Steinbeck.
