Natchez board approves drainage, watershed and utility contracts; authorizes HUD-funded work

Johnson also presented Change Order No. 1 for the Muriel Street emergency watershed program (NRCS-funded). The change order increased the contract by $58,002.27 to cover removal and proper disposal of previously buried tires and debris discovered during construction; staff said the work and costs are within grant and local-match funding and the board approved the change order. Johnson also reported HUD had reviewed environmental documents for proposed improvements at Hiram Revels Plaza and the U.S. Colored Troops monument and determined the work to be categorically excluded under 24 CFR 58.35(a); the board authorized advertising for general contractors for the HUD-funded capital improvement project and the motion carried.
Votes and motions on these items were carried during the meeting, and staff said they will proceed with procurement and contract execution consistent with the grant terms and local procedures. Johnson noted the NRCS match is 25% and that the Muriel Street change order reflected field conditions that required additional work.
Next steps: staff will finalize agreements and contracts, confirm final contract totals in the official procurement records, and proceed with scheduled work under grant terms.
