Minto council approves bids, equipment purchase, claims and names official newspaper

The Minto City Council on May 12 approved several routine but consequential items, including contracts, equipment purchases and its account claims.

On motions recorded in the minutes, the council approved Stampede Concrete’s $10,488 bid to pour a driveway slab north of the city shop and approved purchase of a new loader for $14,000 after trade‑in. The council also approved the April 2025 claims and financials, which the minutes list with line‑item detail and show total claims of $177,817.47.

In committee reports, councilmembers noted that $100,000 remains to be paid to Tri‑State Paving for crack sealing and seal coating. The Minto Jaycees told the council they will pay to pave the alley behind the Minto Community Center to address drainage issues and will consider sandblasting and repainting light poles along Highway 81. Committee notes also recorded an animal‑warden update and announced a vaccination clinic on May 14 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the fire hall. Forestry discussion included a report from a tree trimmer that Minto has Emerald Ash Borer and that tree removals and grant options may be needed.

Mrs. Shutt presented Resolution 2025‑003 designating the Walsh County Record as the City of Minto’s official newspaper because the city lacks a newspaper within its limits; the resolution was adopted on a motion by Mr. Shutt, seconded by Mr. Miskavige. Council members available that night planned a drive‑around inspection of properties and staff were directed to send letters to owners in violation of ordinances or needing cleanup.

The meeting adjourned at 8:30 a.m.; the next regular meeting is set for June 9, 2025.
