Presenter Van Buren told the board administrators were recommending a co‑op to stabilize participation, saying, "we are recommending that we do a coop between the two high schools, GHS and BHS, to field the varsity and JV squad at this time." Trustees asked logistical questions about practice location and whether players would be cut.
When Trustee Sandy Wilson asked why Gallatin High was chosen as the site for practices and games, Van Buren replied, "They had the most number of students." Van Buren also said the co‑op would be evaluated on a year‑to‑year basis and that the district planned outreach to community youth programs to bolster numbers.
Trustee Lucene moved to "approve the initiation of the MHSA cooperative sponsorship application to combine the softball programs of Bozeman High School and Kettlewell High School effective for the upcoming season," and Trustee Neal seconded. The motion passed 8–0.
The board record shows administrators will monitor participation numbers and revisit the arrangement annually; no further board action was recorded at the meeting.
