Lindenhurst approves design for Lake Shore Drive water-main replacement

The Village of Lindenhurst on Jan. 10 authorized engineering design for a phased replacement of an aging water main along Lake Shore Drive and Sprucewood Lane.
Staff presented a proposal from Christopher B. Burke Engineering (CBBEL) to design approximately 3,000 linear feet of water main, increase the pipe diameter from 6 inches to 12 inches to improve supply and pressure for nearby residents, and provide geotechnical work, plans, coordination meetings and bidding assistance. Proposed design costs are not to exceed $48,000 and would be paid from the Water/Sewer Capital Fund.
Staff told the board there are not enough American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to replace the entire run at once and recommended designing the full corridor now while constructing the replacement in phases. Trustee Pat Dunham moved to approve the CBBEL proposal; Trustee Dawn Suchy seconded. The motion passed on a 4-0 roll call vote by the trustees present.
Trustees emphasized that increasing pipe diameter is intended to reduce break frequency and deliver improved pressure to the neighborhood. The village indicated design work will include geotechnical investigation and preparation of bid documents; no construction contract was approved at the meeting.
Next steps include completion of the engineering design, solicitation of bids for construction phases, and scheduling construction as funding allows.
