City staff provided several operational updates at the council meeting, covering recreation programs, a proposed skate-park feature and a police grant award.
Trevin (recreation staff, speaker 3) said youth soccer registration closed with 942 players and that 13 local scholarships will reduce or waive fees under the Community Development Block Grant program; player evaluations had 315 check‑ins and the youth season is scheduled to begin August 1. He also noted a new adult soccer league with a tentative season from August 2 to September 27 and sponsorships including $5,000 from the San Jose Earthquakes and an informal $10,000 commitment from Pacific Gas & Electric.
On the skate park, the presenter (speaker 1) described a first feature aligned with the overflow parking area that runs about "60 almost 67 foot" with a width of roughly 30 feet and two bowls (one about 6 feet deep, the smaller roughly 3 feet). The presenter said the builder and consultant contributed donated time to the design and that a September or October groundbreaking remains on schedule; staff said a Memorandum of Understanding remains to be finalized and will be returned to council when the final draft is ready.
Public works (Mr. Cook, speaker 10) reported ongoing street boring and utility work and said earlier confusion arose because crack-seal and boring projects ran concurrently; he said staff met with contractors and expect improved communications and workmanship going forward. Council members relayed resident complaints about sidewalk/utility-box repairs by an AT&T contractor and asked staff to follow up.
Police Chief (speaker 8) said the department was awarded a DUI cannabis tax fund grant of $208,000 to support DUI saturation patrols and to fund a patrol vehicle; Chief said the vehicle funding will be brought back for council approval at a future meeting. He also provided recent citation and arrest statistics and noted community outreach events including National Night Out and a "Cone and Conversation" outreach event.
No formal council action was required on these operational updates; staff will return any required agreements or vehicle-approval items to the council for separate action.
