The Soda Springs Planning & Zoning Commission opened a conditional-use permit hearing on July 8 for a proposal to place 20-by-40-foot shipping containers at 481 South 3rd East to operate as individual storage units. Applicant Trent White said the containers would serve residents of an adjacent mobile home park and other community members and that the units would be placed on gravel without a permanent foundation.
White told commissioners the containers are less expensive than conventional construction, offer durability and are effectively airtight, which he said deters rodents. Vice Chairman Lori Anne Lau questioned why the applicant selected shipping containers rather than another building type.
After public input closed, Commissioner Stephen Simmons moved at 7:45 p.m. to table the conditional-use permit hearing until the commission’s Aug. 12, 2025 meeting; Vice Chairman Lau seconded and the commission voted unanimously to table the item. The conditional-use request referenced Ordinance No. 683 and City Code 17.32.030(K).
