Sedan council approves small capital repairs, internship and event closure; tables handbook and environmental ordinance

At its Aug. 20 meeting the Sedan City Council approved several routine expenditures and administrative items and tabled two items for further review.
Council actions included approving payment of bills totaling $63,602.11 and authorizing purchase of a rear brake caliper assembly for a city roller at $683.16 to repair damaged equipment. The council also approved moving the summer help into an internship at the same rate of pay.
The council approved a $4,650, three-phase welding contract with Rocking W Fabrications for work at the fire department training building after Fire Chief Shawn Bulter reported the firm was the only responsive bidder. Councilmembers also approved a street closure requested by SAEDC for a carnival fundraiser on Oct. 24, 2024, with organizers instructed to notify Elevate Bank and EMS about parking restrictions.
Two policy items were postponed: a proposed update to the employee handbook was tabled so supervisors can consult employees about benefit trade-offs, and Ordinance No. 948 (Environmental Code) was tabled until the next feasible meeting. The council entered executive session at 7:00 p.m. to discuss non-elected employees and later extended that session; the meeting resumed at 7:50 p.m. with no action taken.
