Wilson's Mills council adopts amended Unified Development Ordinance after public hearing, 4–1

The Wilson's Mills Town Council voted 4–1 on May 18 to adopt amendments to the town's Unified Development Ordinance following a reopened public hearing.
Mayor Fleta Byrd reopened the hearing and said the Planning Department and Planning Board had worked on revisions for more than a year and that the UDO applies to both the town's corporate limits and its extra-territorial jurisdiction. Councilmember David McGowan said he opposes language that continues to allow open burning, saying, "I do not approve of it." Councilmember Tim Brown said future changes could be made by the council if needed.
Councilmember Tim Brown moved to adopt the ordinance, and Councilmember Carolyn Dobbin seconded. The following members voted in favor: Mayor Pro-tem JC Triplett, Councilmember Carolyn Dobbin, Councilmember Tim Brown and Councilmember Doris Riley. Councilmember David McGowan voted in opposition. The motion carried 4–1.
The ordinance text was entered into the public record and the Town Clerk is directed to make the physical revisions to the Unified Development Ordinance binder maintained in the Clerk's office. The Council found the amendment generally consistent with the town's adopted Comprehensive Plan and in the public interest.
Next steps: the Town Clerk will implement the textual revisions in the official UDO copy; no further council action on this item was recorded at the May 18 meeting.
