Vallivue board approves 10‑year facilities plan tied to state modernization funds

The Vallivue School District Board on Aug. 13 approved an updated 10‑year facilities plan intended to support requests for state school modernization funds. Superintendent Lisa Boyd told trustees the plan had been reviewed and aligned with output from new assessment software purchased by the State Department of Education.
"The district will ask for all the funds at one time and will use those funds to continue to repair and make updates to our schools," Boyd said. She explained some of the funds reflected in the state program are reallocations of prior allocations and that accessing them requires a board‑approved 10‑year plan.
Trustee Paul Tierney moved to approve the plan and Trustee Jennifer Cox seconded; the motion carried 5‑0. Board members asked for the plan to be used to structure near‑term repair work and to inform future budgetary requests to the state.
Board materials indicated the district intends to submit a single request for modernization funds and prioritize repairs and updates across campuses; the packet did not list specific dollar amounts earmarked for particular projects. The next implementation steps identified by the board included submitting the funding request to the State Department of Education and scheduling site tours for trustees to review prioritized projects on campus.
