Vallivue trustees approve staffing increases, bus routes, mascots and personnel action in Aug. 13 meeting

The Vallivue School District Board on Aug. 13 approved consent items including $29,757,639.76 in bills, three new full‑time positions for FY25 to reduce class sizes, route and safety busing zones, two elementary mascots, and the release of one teacher’s contract following executive session.
Board Chair Toni Brinegar called the Vallivue School District #139 board to order on Aug. 13 and the trustees cleared a broad consent docket that included bills totaling $29,757,639.76 and numerous personnel actions.
The board voted 5‑0 to approve the agenda after removing a listed property purchase. Trustee Jennifer Cox moved to approve the revised agenda; Trustee Paul Tierney seconded. The same 5‑0 tally carried a slate of routine items including payroll and vendor bills, budget reports and the personnel lists included in the meeting packet.
Superintendent Lisa Boyd asked the board to authorize three additional full‑time equivalent positions for the FY25 school year to reduce class sizes at two large elementary schools; the board approved the request 5‑0. "This will allow the District to decrease class sizes at two elementary schools that are very large," Boyd said in presenting the request.
The board also approved Brown Bus Company’s route and safety busing zone notebook as presented. Trustee Jennifer Cox moved for approval and Trustee Amy Johnson seconded; the motion carried 5‑0.
Principals presented two school identity items. Travis Poulsen, principal for Falcon Ridge Elementary, proposed the Falcon Ridge "Thunderbirds" and the board approved both design options presented. George Zickefoose, principal for Warhawk Elementary, presented an airplane logo and asked for green and lime green color options; the board approved the logo and the color adjustment 5‑0.
A personnel action stemming from the earlier executive session was approved by motion: the release of contract for one elementary teacher, carried 5‑0. The board moved to and returned from executive session earlier in the evening to discuss personnel and property matters under Idaho Code 74‑201 to 208.
Other routine approvals included minor negotiated language updates to the 2024‑25 Certified Master Agreement and Procedural Agreement, and a motion to file an extension for tax certification to allow additional time to receive state revenue numbers; both motions passed unanimously.
The meeting closed with reminders about an upcoming legislative breakfast and the Idaho School Boards Association conference. The board adjourned at 7:46 p.m.
