The Kearney Park Board unanimously approved the department's proposed 2026 park fee schedule after staff explained that recent budget cuts forced the removal of requested manpower and associated funding.
Eric Marshall said the park department's initial budget request for equipment and additional staff was cut significantly; the revised budget eliminated the requested manpower. Board member Ashton King asked how Kearney's fees compared with peer cities, and Ryan Marcotte, staff member, replied that Kearney's fees are higher largely because most peer cities rely on a park sales tax. Marcotte said he was confident the fees were at the practical upper limit for public acceptance.
Lisa Cheeseborough moved to approve the fee schedule and Ashton King seconded; the motion passed unanimously. The board did not amend the schedule during the meeting.
