Sedan advances trails plan, downtown wayfinding and Purple Heart City dedication

City staff reported progress on several community‑development initiatives at the Sept. 17 council meeting, including trails, wayfinding signs and a proposed Purple Heart City dedication.
Lana Robinson said she met with Mike Goodwin of the Kansas Trails Council to scout potential trails in the park and timber area and to review an existing lake trail. Robinson said Goodwin described a free "Trail in a Box" program that supplies trail‑building equipment for creating natural trails and that the city could pursue both natural trails (volunteer-built) and engineered, ADA‑compliant cement trails. Robinson said Dan Holloway of CFS Engineering has experience with trail design and that grant-writing groups may assist and sometimes cover engineering costs.
Robinson also presented proposed wayfinding signs to replace downtown blue-and-white signs directing visitors to the hospital, ballfields and golf course; the council requested a cost estimate and endorsed obtaining quotes. On the Purple Heart City proposal, Robinson said the city would need two signs at city limits and a mayoral proclamation; she proposed holding the dedication at the Nov. 5 council meeting to coincide with Veterans Day outreach.
Other small items on the agenda included approval of a preapproved reimbursement to the SAEDC Committee for $237.50 and an AFLAC representative offering an employee presentation; Robinson will schedule those follow-ups.
