Hines department heads report public-safety, utilities and parks updates

Department heads briefed the Hines Common Council on recent operations during the March 10 meeting.
Fire Chief Doug Murphy reported the department responded to several commercial-vehicle wrecks, extinguished a recurring underground fire and received a grant-funded slip-on tank; he said the volunteer roster is full at 16 and the department will apply for an Oregon State Fire Marshal staffing grant. Murphy noted the Motorola Rapid Response messaging began working the previous day.
Public Works Superintendent Jerry Lewellen said crews are pumping roughly 130,000 gallons of water per day, lagoons are receiving about 125,000 gallons daily and staff began pumping to joint storage to keep lagoon levels steady. He noted new truck equipment arrived and public-works staff were assisting park work in spare time.
City Administrator Roxane Worley summarized planning and parks topics including expired Planning Commission terms, an upcoming USDA technical review of lagoon capacity and Opportunity Zone 2.0 outreach. Worley said kids’ feedback on the Parks Project is prompting design revisions and cited a vendor quote of about $75,000 to add a tri shadow runner.
Officer Mason Radinovich reported 198 calls for service including traffic enforcement, EMS assists, animal complaints, domestic-violence responses and other incidents; he said a patrol Tahoe should be ready next week.
