Trustees hear SROHS and federal-program updates; superintendent reports on safety and events

At the Oct. 16 meeting the Snake River Board of Trustees heard informational reports from Snake River Opportunities High School and district federal programs, and received a superintendent update on safety projects and upcoming district events.
Principal Scott Corgatelli said SROHS has seen enrollment growth and a large increase in students earning dual credits; he said the school is working on an attendance policy aligned with state recommendations and that recruitment efforts aim for about 300 students. He confirmed SROHS graduation will be May 29 at Calvary Chapel in Pocatello, the day after the high school’s graduation.
Federal Programs Director Dave Dougal described improved parent contact and updated federal-program policies, noted personnel changes in the business office that improved fiscal accountability, and outlined a new teacher induction program (including mentors) that he said is going well. He said a federal programs review will occur in January 2025.
Superintendent Mark Kress reviewed progress on projects intended to improve school safety and asked the board’s permission to relocate the high‑school flagpole into the memorial garden across the parking lot; the board agreed to the planned move. Kress also listed upcoming events including parent‑teacher conferences, Finding Nemo Jr. performances Oct. 21–26, the SREF Craft Fair and Halloween Carnival on Oct. 26, the Nov. 5 inservice/Election Day closure for K–4, and the ISBA annual conference Nov. 6–8 in Boise.
