The Roanoke Rapids City Council on Aug. 6 appointed Rex Steinbeck to represent the city on the Roanoke Canal Commission, reappointed three members to the senior center advisory committee and adopted a $9,000 budget amendment for the fire department.
City Clerk (speaker 9) said two commission vacancies required appointment of city representatives; Councilmember Bryant moved to appoint Rex Steinbeck and council approved the appointment by voice vote.
The clerk also reported that Anne Gibbs, Loretta Riddick and Lisa Vincent’s terms on the senior center advisory committee expired Aug. 2, 2024. Gibbs and Vincent had reached the city policy limit of two consecutive terms; the council waived the policy and unanimously reappointed all three by voice vote.
On a separate item, Miss Johnson (speaker 11) reported that an entity identified in the transcript as "DC North" awarded the fire department $9,000 to purchase two carbon monoxide hemoglobin meters. Councilmember Strickland moved to adopt budget ordinance 2024.18 in the amount of $9,000 for the community benefit grant; the motion carried by voice vote.
