Staff reports Walden Street extension, TSP and permitting updates at Canby committee meeting

City staff briefed the committee on several planning and transportation items, including the Walden Street extension, updates to the Transportation System Plan (TSP) and ongoing permitting issues.
A staff member said the Walden Street extension contract was on council’s agenda for a first reading that evening and that a noise variance for the project had been approved, allowing an extended continuous construction window for a rail‑dependent portion of the work. “The boring portion of that project, council approved the noise variance,” the staff member said, and added work could require about 72 hours of continuous activity near the Willow Creek neighborhood for the railroad‑dependent segments.
Planner Brianna Adata gave dates for broader planning items: the TSP update would go to the Planning Commission on March 23, with council hearings projected in April; the comprehensive plan update would go to Planning Commission on March 9 and possibly to council in April. She also said SDC methodology changes and explanatory materials would be published March 6 for public review.
On permitting, staff said the Kitty Hawk tank incident is under Clackamas County building and mechanical review and that the business would need county and city permits for any repairs or changes before resuming normal operations.
Next steps: staff will continue to track the Walden contract through council, publish SDC materials on March 6, and return to the committee with updates at future meetings.
