Norwich IWWCC receives Teachers Drive middle school application, finds proposed activity not significant

The Norwich IWWCC received an application for construction of a new middle school on the existing Teachers Drive school site and voted unanimously to table the matter for further review.
Chris Siri, who presented the application to the commission, said the proposal includes about 700 square feet of wetland fill and roughly 113,600 square feet of upland disturbance needed for stormwater-quality basins, roadway expansion and utilities. Siri said the applicants propose creation and enhancement of wetlands elsewhere on the property to offset impacts.
Brandon Hyde moved that the commission receive application IWWCC-26-0515 and table it to the next regular meeting; Chris Siri seconded. The motion carried unanimously. Hyde then moved a formal finding that the proposal "is not a significant activity," citing on-site erosion- and sediment-control measures and site remediation and management; that motion also passed unanimously.
The commission did not set a public-hearing date at the special meeting; staff had asked commissioners to vote on whether the application warranted a hearing. The application remains under commission consideration and is scheduled for further action at the next meeting.
The special meeting adjourned after the votes.
