Fairfield Planning Commission changes meeting day, schedules ordinance hearings and records multiple tabled items

The Fairfield Planning Commission made several administrative and scheduling decisions at its July 1, 2026 meeting, including a change to its regular meeting day, scheduling of work sessions and public hearings for code ordinances, and action to table items awaiting additional technical or agency input.
Commissioner Kyler Fisher moved to change the regular Planning Commission meeting schedule to the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m., beginning in August 2026; Commissioner Kelton Butterfield seconded and the motion passed unanimously among present commissioners (Commissioner Jamie Mascaro absent). Commissioners said moving to the fourth Wednesday would better accommodate Planner Jim Spung's schedule and provide time between Planning Commission and Town Council agendas.
The Commission also scheduled a work session on July 16, 2026 at 7 p.m. to allow commissioners to review draft language for a proposed Site‑Specific Development Ordinance and the Roads Ordinance and to prepare for a public hearing set for July 29, 2026 at 7 p.m. Mayor Hollie McKinney noted the Roads Ordinance had been updated with APWA standards and that the upcoming hearing would fulfill public‑hearing requirements after the town code recodification moved the ordinance into the Land Use Title.
On consent the Commission approved the June 3, 2026 meeting minutes following a motion by Commissioner David Riet and a second from Commissioner Kelton Butterfield; the vote was unanimous among present commissioners with Commissioner Mascaro absent.
Commissioner David Riet moved to table the Commission's discussion of a proposed Wildlife Hazard and Safety Protection Area until additional information could be obtained from the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources; Commissioner Kyler Fisher seconded and the motion passed unanimously among present commissioners. Commissioners noted historical reports of bald eagle presence in Fairfield but said active nesting within the proposed area had not been confirmed.
Commissioner David Riet moved to adjourn at 8:58 p.m.; Commissioner Kelton Butterfield seconded.
