Town staff asked council to consider small changes to on-street parking directly in front of the courthouse so a 12-foot-wide Vietnam Veterans Memorial slated for Nov. 22 dedication would be visible and accessible for visitors and photographs.
A town presenter (addressing the council) said the memorial will locate within an existing planter area roughly 5 by 12 feet and that two nearby parking spots would partially block views; staff proposed shifting adjacent spaces or eliminating one spot to clear a 12-foot sightline. “If we can clear the area directly in front of where the memorial will stand, it will free visibility from the road for visitors coming into town,” the presenter said.
Council voted to allow staff to modify parking or eliminate one space if necessary. The motion passed unanimously.
Staff will coordinate any necessary changes with county courthouse operations and return to council with any technical plans or signage updates.
