Local delegate: NJ School Boards Association removed its president in 19–4 vote; local board presented certificate to member

The board’s delegate to the New Jersey School Boards Association informed the Hardyston Township Board of Education on Oct. 14 that the state association’s board voted 19–4 to remove Tammy Smith from the association presidency.
The delegate said the state board’s decision was guided by the association’s officers’ code of conduct and was limited to Ms. Smith’s role as president and member of the association’s board of directors; the delegate explicitly stated the action does not affect Ms. Smith’s qualifications to remain a member of her local board of education.
The delegate also said that immediate past president Karen Cortelio will assume the state presidency. The delegate presented a certificate and tenure pin to Nick Demczak in recognition of his state service.
No local action on Ms. Smith’s local board membership was taken or discussed at the meeting.
