The board voted to approve a set of policies implementing Act 89 requirements for district employees.
Joel (superintendent) said the policies address definitions and prohibitions that the state law identifies as grooming behaviors and include required employee‑handbook language. The administration previously presented the materials in June; Joel said the district is bringing policies forward in stages to be ready for Sept. 1 implementation.
A board member moved to approve the Act 89 policies; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
Joel described the policies as important protections for students and said the district appreciates the state’s work to define prohibited behaviors and to attach criminal consequences for violators. He also said the administration will insert the approved policies into the employee handbooks when final handbook language is provided in August.
The board took no separate substantive amendments during the vote and treated the packet as a single action.
The administration will return with final handbook language and any required cross‑references at the August meeting.
